Tip: When are Pears ripe?

Pears ripen from the inside out and from top to bottom. When pears yield to the gentle thumb pressure near the “neck” at the base of the stem, they are ripe and ready to eat. By the time the pear is soft in the middle, it is often overripe. Most pear varieties do not change color when ripe. Confirm ripeness with the “Check the Neck” test.
